SUNBIRD RECRUITS 1500 OUT OF 5000 CASSAVA OUT- GROWERS

Sunbird Bioenergy Africa has so far recruited 1500 out of the 5000 targeted cassava out-grower farmers in Kawambwa District.

Company Project Manager Mark Muchinga disclosed that the recruitment of the farmers is being conducted ahead of the official launch of the program by Republican President Edgar Lungu.

Mr. Muchinga said the recruited farmers who are expected to participate in the 2019/2020 farming season would be trained by company extension officers in their localities.

He noted that the out-grower farmers would among others receive planting materials, other farming inputs, land clearing and land treatment.

Mr. Muchinga said Sunbird would embark on mechanized farming in order to cultivate over 9500 hectares under the out-grower scheme.

He also noted that the recruitment of farmers is also incorporating local co-operatives to enhance the efficiency of the program.

And Mr. Muchinga also disclosed that over 300 direct jobs would be created when the out-grower project is fully rolled out.
