The Republican president Edgar Lungu has condemned people, who supplied fake maize seed to some farmers in Northern Province, this year.
President Lungu says he will personally follow up on the matter and ensure that culprits are brought to book.
The Head of state says he had warned farmers to be wary of fake maize seed on the market when he launched the maize planting season in Southern Province.
This came to light when President Lungu held a meeting with paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people in Kasama.
The traditional leader expressed worry that most farmers’ crops in the province are likely to be affected due to the fake seed they planted.
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu said already some maize fields have started rotting.
