Baker Co. farm equipment auction will benefit school, farmers – WALB

NEWTON, Ga. (WALB) – Going once, going twice, sold to the viewer that’s coming to the Baker County Farm Equipment Auction.
This event will give farmers new equipment and will give more resources to the Baker County School System.
“Anytime a farmer goes to an auction, it’s like a kid in the candy shop, it’s a great time all around. I didn’t realize it raised over $40,000, that’s great for a local school system,” said Camilla farmer, Frank Dixon.
The auction will take place on Highway 91 in Newton.
The principal of Baker County school, Boyd Williamson said at an event like this, everybody wins.
“When you sell farm equipment at an auction like this, the majority of the money of the auction proceeds go to the farmer that bought the equipment. Then a small percentage goes to the auction company, then a small percentage goes to the school and the more you sell those small percentage adds up and that’s how the school makes money,” said Williamson.
Williamson said this will give farmers a bigger platform to sell their equipment.
He’s expecting 500 to 1,000 people to come to take some of these tractors, cars, and more.
There are also resources that the school could gain after this event.
“It goes for student incentives, teacher incentives, school functionality as far as things we may need. It may go for a pair of jeans for a kid that needs a pair of jeans but 100 percent stays within the school,” said Williamson.
The event will start at 9 a.m. and it’s expected to run until 4 p.m.
But they said you don’t want to be late to an event like this because you don’t want to miss out on some of those good deals.
